Sherrie and Becky’s Trip to the 7th Continent 2023

Monday

Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head…

Good words for a song??

It’s Now or Never

I’m up early only to find Becky has been up for an hour already. And she is on Chicago time. I repack my carry-on and sneak my fleece leggings in (I had eliminated them but they are my Costco great deal and when else can I wear them?) Besides the carry-on backpack and personal item, I pack a sack with the fleece jacket for the plane (that’s an excuse for “couldn’t fit it in my duffel”) and add food for the Tri-rail train ride and airport. When we are both satisfied with our luggage, we head out on last minute errands:Notary, FedEx, library, Post Office, Target, Whole Foods. Once back, with very little time until train time, I decide I need traveling business cards. I dig through my stash of old printer paper and find business cards. I get Ernie to do the computer design and get it to fit the cards. It takes me 3 tries on the printer to get the paper right – the cards were pre-printed with a design – I did it upside down, backwards and inside out before a successful run. Becky, not wanting to be left out, designs one too – no false starts on the printing. We are finally all ready to leave except for my camera which I find laying out on the table. Now we are ready to leave.

Airport Here We Come

Load up the car. Get in. All ready. NOT. I left my cell phone charging in the house. Run in, get phone, run out, get in. Now we are ready to leave. Ernie drops us at the Tri-rail.

The intrepid travelers at it again

Who’s feet? What tracks?

We gasp our last bit of fresh air and mask up for a long trip to Buenos Aires. We ride uneventfully to Miami playing Wordle and NY Times Spelling Bee. I had told Becky it’s an easy walk from Tri-rail to the connector train to the terminal as they have moving walkways. We walk to the moving walkways. They are not moving but they are walkways so walk we do. We ride the connector train to the airport. We walk to check-in. American has 5,260 check-in lines – and yes, the check-in luggage only line is number 5,260. What seems like 10 hours later we arrive at the kiosk, get our tags and drop our bags. We have TSA pre-check. We are directed to security line 1 – and yes again – it is halfway back to Boca. But it has no line and it’s a miracle, I’m not selected for a random pat down or phone or shoe particle test. We get to the gate and find isolated seats so we remove masks and eat. I get an email from American Airlines telling me my 10:00pm flight is on time. My flight is at 8:00pm. I wait in line and they tell me I’m on the 8:00pm. Where did this erroneous email come from? No one knows. Full flight but we are in Group 6 and still able to stow our carry-on in the overhead with no problem.

All Aboard

Switch out my hiking boots for my sandals. Stow my fleece jacket and get ready for 9 hours of movies. Dinner is served. Oh no. My TV is broken. My light is broken. My phone plug keeps falling out of the outlet. After 2 hours of trying to get my TV to work I resort to good old reading. Seven hours to go and no movies..I’ll have to try sleeping. I get a leg cramp. Stretch, drink water, take Advil. I fall asleep. I freeze. Get fleece out. I’m roasting. Stow fleece. Sleep some more. Shades are all pulled down and I have an aisle seat so no views to be had. Countdown to landing.
