Our plan from the start was leave early morning each day. It’s now 11:00 and we haven’t left yet. What do they say about “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”.
We’re actually on the road 11:30
On the way out of town, a whole bunch of stone windmills overlooking the ocean.
If you want a good laugh, ask Joana and Tina to say the word wool.
I have to remember if I want to get there today, I can’t take every picture I see.
Just saw a hawk fly overhead .. Good luck?
Now we’re a little inland away from the beach. We can still see the sand dunes once in awhile, but we’re going through more pine trees and there is a road that’s noisy.
I pulled out the map on Camino Ninja app and we missed our turn a long time ago. Remember what they say. Not if you get lost but when you get lost.
Cynthia decided to have Andre to pick her up because her foot is sore. Then we’ll continue on our path and eventually cut back to where we should be. So much for a short walk today.
Andrea dropped us at a bathroom for me. He made an 8-minute walk into a 1-minute drive .Now we’re going to head out try to get back on our path. I think Tina’s just going to take the shortest route and Joanna and I will try to get the Camino.
In our short distance to the river crossing, we saw a wall of beautiful flower pots, a little chapel wall with flowers and a beautiful Riverview and we even were able to see Tina crossing the bridge as we approached.
Everyone’s still really good at stopping at the crosswalks and letting us get across busy roads because of course we cross the bridge on the wrong side and had to cross over after the bridge. I guess it wasn’t the wrong side. It was just a side.
Followed the river for a while then inside the town Esposende. Wall mural, Camino signs all walking and stuff in a cafe with coffee and pastries.
I do have to watch the map because some of the Camino signs are really for hostels and hotels along the way which put up a Camino signs but then it has a symbol for a place to stay so you have to be careful not to turn off the route.
We walked and walked thru ocean path and scrub with birds. Few pilgrims but enough Saturday walkers and bikers. Turned off the path according to Google maps. Narrow park thru fields of flowers and tall grass. I was thinking about the sign I saw the other day showing local flora and fauna. Vipers were on the list!
We went thru farm areas and woods. Finally reaching the main road.. Not as much fun to walk with traffic and no sidewalk. Luckily it was a short distance.
Arrived 4:45 at Marinhas Bed and Breakfast
Ours rooms were up a floor and no elevator. However there may be one of I ever come back since it’s currently being installed.
My knees were not happy.
Heading to the pool. Nix on the pool. Feet only. Like an ice bath. Soothing but not subjecting my body to it.
The HOT shower was fabulous. Great pressure and revived my muscles.
Andre drive us the
10 minute drive back to Esposende which took us 2 hours to walk, for dinner. Pharmacy stop for toe blister bandages, painkiller muscle relaxer, elbow bandages and an assortment of other remedies everybody needed.
Dinner at Restaurante O Buraco .. Translation: The Hole
I ordered grilled bacalhau (cod) because the Dorada was a half kilo.. way too big . You almost always have to get a whole fish.
2 ordered the cod, the others the ribs. We shared and had enough for 4 more!
Back to the hotel, pack up for an early exit tomorrow.. Long walk if I make it.
My toe is a little sore but the Advil seems to have helped the other aches.
Good night.
One more thing.. We were going to do laundry in the local laundramat which was 2 washers and a dryer sitting in our parking lot.. literally sitting in the parking lot. I really wanted to use them just to say I did my laundry in the parking lot but we were too tired by the time we returned from dinner. We agreed we would all wear dirty clothes tomorrow to smell equally bad.
